Democracy Today

Matt McKeown, author for the CLT Journal, recently discussed democracy in his blog series, The Great Conversation:

“The modern idea of democracy normally prioritizes equality (which can itself mean a lot of things). A common expression of the sentiment we now call “democracy” is the Latin phrase vox populi vox Dei, “the voice of the people is the voice of God,” meaning that political sovereignty inherently rests with the people— however exactly they are defined — and that no autocrat has the right to defy that voice.”

Leaders in classical education, including those leading Ascent Classical Academies, believe we are stewards of the Western tradition, and the fruits of civil and religious freedom. They believe the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of this legacy.
